SoCal Harvest Crusade 2023
On Saturday July 1st 7 street preachers stood outside the gates of Harvest Crusade exposing the sins of the mainstream American Church. As you may know Harvest Crusade is a yearly event hosted by Pastor Greg Laurie of Calvary Chapel and their main method of evangelism is the sinners prayer. Although I do believe God can use the sinners prayer, the majority of decisions for Christ through the sinners prayer result in false conversations. No were in the Bible do we see Jesus or the apostles saying bow your head, close your eyes, lift your hand, and repeat after me, on the contrary these men preached repentance.
After the recent Movie called Jesus revolution it is obvious that many in Calvary Chapel subscribe to a casual, beach bum, kumbaya, hippy type of Christianity. Moreover, Greg Laurie the director of this movie decided to leave out some crucial and controversial details about the main character and influential leader of the the Calvary Chapel Movement named Lonnie Frisbee, who was kicked out of the church by Chuck Smith for living a secret homosexual life style. With the movie omitting so much of the truth, just as they omit many aspects of God's character that are undesirable to many in our day and age, we felt compelled to preach the topics that many Calvary Chapel and mainstream pastors are afraid to speak on from the pulpit, such sin, God's judgment, hell, holiness, etc,
One of the brothers brought out his "Homo Sex Is Sin" banner encouraging these Christians to actually make a stand against homosexuality instead of turning the blind eye and being ashamed of God's righteous standard. Although this was not a homo event, we hoped that it would provoke these Christians to be bold in the faith and lift up their voice on this matter, since the majority of this church is a big proponent of the "just love on them" method of evangelism, where instead of telling them the truth they just sympathize with the sinner and befriend them.
For the most part these people did not have ears to hear, nor eyes to see, and tried their best to ignore our message. Many of them are quite comfortable with their lukewarm version of christianity and love hearing cotton candy sugar coated preaching. We were called legalistic, pharisees, and accused of having a religious spirit by some, nevertheless less God's word went forth in power.
This guy even had the nerve to call me a stupid A**hole, in plain sight of all who were there, men, women, and children alike. This kind of behavior towards the preaching coming from a so called christian does not surprise me. If you are a street preacher this type of response coming from believers is expected, since most Christians care too much about other peoples feelings rather than the hard truth.
